The main reason people stay overnight for a second day at Machu Picchu is for the chance to climb Huayna Picchu, the peak that overlooks Machu Picchu in the classic photographs.
Only 400 people are allowed to hike Huayna Picchu each day. You have to sign in at the entrance gate. The first 200 numbers are released at 7:00am. The second 200 are available at 10:00am. These tickets should be bought in advance by us for you.
Also excellent is the one hour walk to the Sun Gate for stunning views back across Machu Picchu. The Sun Gate marks the end of the classic Inca Trail.
Additional attractions for the second day at Machu Picchu include the Inca Bridge & Apu Machu Picchu.
